This book would not have existed without the wisdom of Dr. Jean Pettifor who seeded the idea of a book on psychologists’ experiences with ethics, using a more personal writing style. Jean was enormously helpful and supportive to us in the book’s early stages. Even though she is no longer with us, we wish to express our deep gratitude for her help and for the legacy she left us after a 67-year career as a psychologist.
We also wish to express our deep appreciation for the 42 passionate and experienced authors, who responded to the call to bring this project to life. Their dedication to seeing this project through and their patience during the many stages of the process were outstanding.
We also are grateful for The University of Calgary Press’ commitment to help us bring our manuscript to publication and for advocating on our behalf as needed. We are particularly grateful to Helen Hajnoczky and Brian Scrivener for their guidance and for answering our many procedural questions as well as to Peter Midgley, editor extraordinaire, for the accuracy of his work, and the promptness at which he edited the 600+ manuscript pages that formed this book. Lastly, we would like to thank Emily LeGrand who crafted the index for this book. Her kindness and professionalism were very much appreciated.
On a final note, we want to thank everyone who purchased a copy of this book and its contents, as all proceeds will go to the Dr. Jean and Dick Pettifor Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship helps fund graduate students’ research projects in professional ethics in psychology.
It takes a dedicated community to help the world move in more ethical directions. Thank you for being part of that community.
