GOVERNMENT OF THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

Game Branch.

Edmonton

March 12, 1935.

Mr. M. Christianson

Inspector of Indian Agencies,

Alberta Inspectorate,

Calgary, Alberta.

Dear Mr. Christiansion:

The Order-in-Council providing for the Chipewyan district has been signed. It provides that the Chipewyan district be closed for trapping except to residents of the district who are fully licensed and that the area be described as follows: -

“Beginning at a point where the Inter-Provincial boundary between Alberta and Saskatchewan joins the south boundary of North West Territories, thence southward along the Inter-Provincial boundary to the 27th base line, thence west along the said 27th base line to the Athabasca River, thence north along the eastern boundary of the Wood Buffalo Park to a point where it joins the southern boundary of the North West Territories, thence east along the southern boundary of the North West Territories to a point of intersection of the Inter-Provincial boundary.”

I have just received a letter from Dr. Lewis and have wired him as follows:

“Chipewyan district with 27th Base Line as south boundary and Buffalo Park as West boundary is closed for trapping expect to residents of the district who hold Trappers’ licenses. Police detachments have been advised through Head Office.”

Yours very truly,

(Sgd) S. H. CLARK,

Game Commissioner.

Indian Affairs. (RG 10, Volume 6733, file 420-2C)
